Have you ever dreamed of sleeping in a gypsy caravan or a cabin in the forest?

The Explor'Actors Blog A look back at our summer vacation 2020

Pour faciliter la lecture j’ai glissé quelques photos de notre séjour en bas de cet article

We had the chance to do both during our week of vacation. This summer like many we visited France and we did not regret it. Moreover, we immediately saw it as an opportunity to go and meet some of the responsible accommodations listed on Ethik Hotels.

Not being a fan of long distances by car, we decided to organize our trip so as not to make more than 5 hours between stages.

Considering our professional activities we took it late and also had to adapt to the availability of Ethik Hotels. Once all this was put together the program was done: 2 days in Elicie’s gypsy caravan in Burgundy, 4 days in Terre de Baronnies then back to a rental in Burgundy on the vineyard side for 3 nights.

La roulotte d’Elicie

Sophie and Stéphane bought this beautiful gypsy caravan a few years ago now. They have renovated it to make a nice cocoon. They then installed it at the bottom of their garden to add a superb terrace with an exceptional panoramic view. It is said that you can see up to 150 km. It is besides there that one proposes us every morning a copious breakfast. Never short of ideas, for the sanitary facilities, they recovered an old hut of building site to make a charming bathroom with all comfort.

Discovery level of the region, we had to revise our ambitions downwards because of the heat wave. We were nevertheless able to visit Digoin and especially to admire the canal bridge. It connects the Canal Latéral and the Canal du Centre by passing over the Loire River. An impressive achievement that dates back almost 200 years. This kind of building always impresses me. We also took advantage of the banks of the Loire River and the freshness which emanated from it a little. We also made a small tour in Paray le Monial to discover the imposing Basilica of the city center. The day ended by a very nice aperitif with our hosts. A nice opportunity to get to know each other in a different way than virtually.

A very nice stopover for a good start to the vacations that we advise you with your eyes closed.

Les terres de Baronnies

The Ethik Hôtel

After 5 hours of driving, change of scenery, here we are in the regional natural park of the Provencal Baronnies: mountain landscape, Provencal villages, rivers and torrents, crickets for the atmosphere … Temperature level however we are not disorientated ! Aline and Bruno welcome us and make us visit their “garden” of 6 hectares where they have installed the 5 huts and a gîte. We begin the tour of the owner with a superb panoramic terrace. It is here that we will take all our breakfasts and dinners on the evenings of table d’hôtes. Each meal is 100% homemade and 100% local (except the champagne as an aperitif but that’s understandable… you’ll see on the spot!), a delight. It’s also at breakfast that Bruno will take the time to know what you want to do during the day to propose you activities/visits/walks accordingly.

Under the terrace is the collective space with the kitchen and the comfortable and private bathrooms of each of the cabins. I do not forget the beautiful swimming pool, an invitation to rest after the beautiful discoveries of the day.

Finally, after a descent of a few minutes, we discover the 5 huts in the woods. They are all unique: one with a roof terrace, others with a view on the plain, one with a second floor… And ours, Cephée, a pretty trapper’s hut. All of them have a small water point and dry toilets to ensure comfort without the need to go up. Finally a 2nd terrace, accessible to all, allows you to observe the stars because there is no light pollution around.

If you are wondering, the huts are equipped to go there also in winter. You can also replace the swimming pool with the Nordic bath.

Just a little advice for future travelers: make sure you leave most of your things in the bathroom. Only go downstairs the bare minimum. Anything that goes down will have to be put back up at the end of the stay.

We loved this exotic and resourcing stay. We will go back but out of season to enjoy Bruno’s hiking tips.

Back to Burgundy

I won’t talk about our airbnb hosting which went badly. As what the Ethiks Hotels there is only that of true :)

We took advantage of our visit to rent bikes and discover the beautiful hilly and vine-covered landscapes. For this we took an old road that was redesigned as a bicycle path and then the banks of the Canal. In spite of the heat it was a nice walk, an invitation to slow tourism.

For information the tourist office of Nolay rents several classic or electric bikes, a real good way to discover the region.

Our summer vacations are now over and we hope you enjoyed our story and wanted to visit them. On our side, we hope to meet you, if Covid wants to, for our next escapade at Concept West Coast.

And what was your program this summer?
